Start manually. Connect when supported.
Manual lessons are the main way to use While. Automatic offers are a narrow pilot integration with one verified setup.
Manual mode
Designed for desktop VS Code 1.95 or newer. Codex is not required.
The recorded desktop tests cover macOS on Apple silicon with VS Code 1.138.0 and 1.139.0. Other operating systems, and the declared 1.95 minimum, have not been validated yet.
Automatic offers
Verified only for this exact combination:
- Operating system
- macOS 15.7.4
- Architecture
- Apple silicon
- Editor
- VS Code 1.139.0
- Codex CLI
- 0.155.0-alpha.16
- Python
- Existing Python 3 at
/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.13/bin/python3
What “verified” does not cover
The integration does not attach to Codex desktop chats or to the separate Codex IDE extension. It supports one folder and one owning editor window.
Other combinations keep manual learning. An update to macOS, VS Code, or the Codex CLI needs a new compatibility check before automatic offers are supported again.
